The First Month

This blog was first created during my senior year of high school as an assignment in a computer class I had. However now that I am attending the wonderful institution of Muskingum University, I have the priveledge of being in an Intro to Computing class and guess what! We have the exact same assignment :] So instead of making a whole new blog I am going to continue with the previous. Only this time the posts are actually going to have a purpose instead of gossip and daily news at Fairbanks High School.
So to start with is the move-in day that everyone has to go through, many of us for the first time ever. I personally had a blast! Parents were not too thrilled and you'll have that, there were some parents I saw that day who were crying, mine however retained the tears and let me have a pleasant but exhausting move-in. Here's the first hint to college, you will always pack too much stuff the first time. We've only been here a month but in the two trips I have ventured home there have been boxes of things that I just don't need making the trip with me. Not everything from your childhood is needed, a teddy bear and blanket are perfectly fine I feel, but your first coloring book or the clay imprint of your kindergarten hand are not needed when moving on with life. Leave those at home, give your parents something to look back on and remember you.
Another piece of advice is to be nice! I met some people on the first day who seemed to think they were still rulers of the school and everyone else was just a bump in the road. Sorely wrong, those people down the hall, down or up a level, are going to be around you twenty four seven. You are all living together and experiencing things together. So be grumpy guss on the very first day is not the most intelligent thing for you to do. Ecspecially if you are mean towards your roommate. I thankfully have the priveledge of getting along tremendously well with my roommate. We met each other at orientation and decided that instead of getting someone who looks like they just rolled in the dirt we would take a chance with each other. So far it is going great! Don't be afraid, make new friends, and on the first day leave your door open, it is amazing how many people will just drop by and introduce themselves to you, or you drop in on them.
